The former chairmanship aspirant for Ughelli North Council Area, Mr. Lucky Olerhimena Ofomukoru, has been elected as the new chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State.
He was returned unopposed during the party’s congress held at the Ughelli Township Stadium on Saturday.
Olorogun Fred Majemite, a two-time Delta State commissioner, praised the congress’s success as indicative of the party’s unity and its commitment to supporting Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.
Majemite emphasized the importance of ensuring the governor’s success and securing his re-election in 2027, attributing the congress’s smooth execution to the governor’s effective leadership and the party’s dedication to the “MORE” agenda.
“The successful conduct of the PDP Ughelli North Congress is a signal that the party is one and it is ready to ensure that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s tenure is successful and after the first tenure, his second tenure will be assured,” he said.
Jaro Egbo, Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, described the congress’s success as evidence of PDP’s dominance in the local government and beyond.
He noted a recent reconciliatory meeting aimed at addressing internal conflicts and attracting former members. Egbo criticized the opposition APC, asserting that the PDP’s unity would lead to better outcomes for the council and the party’s overall success.
“The successful conduct of the PDP Congress in Ughelli North shows that PDP is the party to beat not only in this local government area but in Delta and Nigeria in general. We are going to deliver the MORE agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and when we deliver, the people will be happy with us.”
Speaking to journalists after the election, Mr. Lucky Olerhimena Ofomukoru expressed his gratitude and outlined his commitment to collaboration and reconciliation within the party.
He vowed to work closely with past leaders and current officials, including the Ughelli Local Government Area chairman, to foster unity and strengthen the party’s position. Ofomukoru appealed to former members to return to the PDP, promising an inclusive approach to leadership.
“My message to the people is that we should live as brothers and sisters because, as far as I am concerned in this election, there is no victor, no vanquish. We are all brothers and I want to tell those who left the party to come back. We are ready to work with everybody, and we are going to reconcile everybody, and at the end of the day, PDP will become victorious in Ughelli North,” Ofomukoru said.
On his part, Hon. Kelly Oghenekevwe, Executive Director of the Board of Internal Revenue, Delta State, commended the peaceful nature of the congress and called for the new executive committee to provide a clear plan for advancing the party’s goals.
He stressed the importance of unity and collective effort in achieving electoral success, urging all members to support the governor and work together in the lead-up to the elections.
He added that the election of Mr. Ofomukoru marks a new chapter for the PDP in Ughelli North, with a focus on unity, reconciliation, and strategic planning to enhance the party’s prospects in future elections.
