Land Grabbers: Oteri-PG, Elders Sworn-in Land Committee Members, Directs Buyers To Deal With Community

OTERI-UGHELLI – Committed to the peace-driven mantra of the Delta State government as encapsulated in the renewed hope agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the leadership of Oteri-Ughelli community in Ughelli North local government area, during the week, inaugurated a land committee for the community to check the excessiveness of land grabbers in the community.
Performing the swearing-in ceremony at Prince Itive Hall, Oteri-Ughelli, the President General of the community, Chief Simon Egbenana, charged the committee members to carry out duties diligently in line with the stipulated laws guiding the setting of the committee.
While reading the Riot Acts to both sellers and buyers, he said, the community will dealt deseceively on anyone found flaunting the community laws and rules enacted for themselves.
He advised potential land buyers and the general public to notify and seek clarification from the Land Administrative Committee of the community before making any payment. He named the affected land areas to be included: Imowhe/Ovre Axis lands, Uloho Avenue lands, Upper Agbarho lands and other Oteri lands.
He warned that if anybody buys land or plots of land in the affected areas without notifying the Land Administrative Committee of the community dose so at their own risk. Addressing newsmen, he said it becomes necessary to set up a land committee for the community to check-mate activities of some unscrupulous elements – land grabbers in the community whose activities have, in recent times, dragged the name of the community to mud.
According to him, the land grabbers are in the habit of selling one plot of land to more than three persons, thereby bringing the good name of the community to disrupt.
“It has come to the notice of the community that the activities of land grabbers who are known for selling other people’s lands under a pretence to one or more persons.
“Oteri-Ughelli community has taken decisive measures to curb the menace of land – grabbers in the community.
“The committee is an offshoot of the central executive committee of the community, their duties include liaising with the prospective buyers and sellers and ratification of the Deed of Conveyance on behalf of the community”.
Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated land committee of the community, Mr Frederick Echero thanked the community for finding them worthy to serve the community. He promised on behalf of the other members of the community to carry out their duties in accordance with the constitution of the community and term of their operations.
Among those Sworn-in are: Elder Frederick Echero, Mr. William, Mr. Solomon Ejughemre, Chief John Bull Ekama, Mr. Philip Osoh, Mr. Okporuanefe Ubiomo.
Others are; Mr. Moses Igben, Mr. Edore Omoraka, Mr. Erute Esegine, Mr. Johwovwo Diamond, and Mr. Akpobome Aphiare.
