Land Tussle: Obi of Ogwashi Uku “In the eye of the storm”

*As Onishe of Ubulu Uku sends SOS to DTSG over alleged land grabbing by Obi of Ogwashi-Uku

THE Onishe of Ubulu Uku, a border town to Ogwashi Uku, Chief Emma Ejiofor, PhD, has sent an urgent letter and a Save Our Souls ( SOS) to the Delta State governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is seeking his intervention and help to recover its parcel of ancestral lands from Obi of Ogwashi Uku, Ifechukwude Okonjo.

The particular land, the Onishe of Ubulu Uku alleged, has been illegally invaded by Obi of Ogwashi uku, lfechukwude Okonjo, allegedly sent thugs, in tandem with armed security forces, to bulldoze Ubulu Uku lands in the Aniagbala farmlands, boundary with Ogwashi Uku, terrorizing indigenes of the area under the pretense of the authority’s backing.

In a press release titled “Condemnation of Obi of Ogwashi uku actions” personally endorsed by the Onishe of Ubulu Uku, Chief Emma Ejiofor, PhD( for and on behalf of Ubulu communities, made available to The Rainbow Newspaper alleged attempts by Obi of Ogwashi uku to annex their ancestral lands, neighbouring communities through territorial conquest.

Onishe of Ubulu Uku, Chief Emma Ejiofor, PhD alleged unlawful encroachment, criminal invasion, and forceful takeover/land grabbing of their ancestral lands.

This is coming a few hours after the youths and people of Ubulu Okiti in Aniocha South staged a peaceful protest at the Government House, Asaba, alleging land-grabbing activities against the Obi of Ogwashi uku, Ifechukwude Okonjo.

The Onishe of Ubulu Uku kingdom, Chief Emma Ejiofor, PhD, has therefore alerted the state government to urgently call the embattled Obi of Ogwashi you to order to avert an inevitable breakdown of law and order that will ultimately snowball into bloodshed.

“The alleged attempts to annex neighboring communities through territorial conquest by Obi lfechukwude Okonjo disregard centuries of peaceful coexistence and demonstrate a profound lack of understanding of democratic norms.

“The Obi’s claims are based on purported consent judgments using alleged forged documents, despite his family having no historical connection to the targeted lands. This blatant disregard for the rights and well-being of the affected communities is unacceptable in the 21st century.

“This behaviour invites communal strife and violence We urge the Delta State government to intervene immediately to prevent potential bloodshed.

The government should investigate these allegations, caution the Obi against further aggression, and direct security agencies to take appropriate action to protect the affected communities from the Obi’s wanton destruction of their property and crops Such intervention is crucial to prevent a full-blown conflict”.
