Two Persons To Die By Hanging In Delta

*As two bags 10 years imprisonment each, one 25, other 21 years imprisonment

UGHELLI – DELTA High Court sitting at Kwale, presided over by Justice F. O Enenmo, sentenced two felons, Mr. Bright Ossai and another, Mr. Izagwu Obodo, to death by hanging for a robbery case.

The first Defendant in a case (Hck/5oc/2022.) – Mr. Bright Ossai – was said to have robbed one Hycent Abandy of his Denstar Motorcycle while armed with a gun at Owessi Street, Kwale.
He was caught in the act when the victim, Hycent, raised the alarm. The police reportedly rushed to the scene to rescue the victim and recovered the gun from the robber.

The Police also recovered another motorcycle the convict had earlier robbed while armed which he sold to to one Mr Ebele Pius at Ossisa.

Two witnesses testified, while the Defendant testified, but did not call any witness. The 1st Defendant Bright Ossai, was sentenced to death by hanging just as Mr Ebele Pius bagged 10 years imprisonment with hard labour or a fine of N500, 000, 000.

In case File Number Hck/13c/2021, another defendant, Izagwu Obodo on the 21st of August, 2021, murdered one Nonso Dibia at Umu Itching by shooting him with a gun.

The prosecution, led by C. O Onoberhie-Oberuomo, called three witnesses and tendered various exhibits while the Defendant testified without any witness.
Justice Enenmo, in his judgment, found the Defendant guilty and sentenced him to death by hanging.

Also in Suit No. Hck/19c/2021, the defendant, Chukwu Ijeoma, on the 4th of January, 2021, had a carnal knowledge of one Nwachukwu Chioma Precious at Aboh on the 16th of October 2023.
He was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment with hard labour By Justice Enenmo at the Kwale High Court.
The Prosecution was led by Onoberhie-Oberuomo, Assistant Director in the Ministry of Justice, Asaba.

In another case, File No. Hck/14c/2021, the defendant, Ugochukwu Ashiwe, on the 31st of October, 2020, at Kwale, attempted to murder one Ndoka Okolocha by stabbing him with a broken bottle.
The prosecution called two witnesses as the defendant testified and called one witness.

He was convicted and sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.
Similarly, in a case led by Prosecuting Counsel, Mrs. Oberuomo, the defendant, Chukwueneku Opute, on 15/3/2022 at Ashaka, defiled Ejeruku Esther.

The Prosecution fielded three witnesses. The Defendant testified but did not call any witness.

Hon Justice Enenmo, in his ruling, convicted the defendant to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour.
Justice Enenmo, in his ruling in the case between the state and Egoyibo Ugbomem (Hck/57c/2022.), the 1st defendant, Egoyibo, was initially charged with her daughter Chioma Egbumem for the murder of one Chukwemeka Nkere on 29/8/2021.

However, because the Police did not originally charge the daughter together with the 1st defender, she could not be traced.

The Prosecution later withdrew the case against her and proceeded with the mother.

Egoyibo has reported at Aboh Police Station that the deceased committed suicide by hanging on a ceiling, while the autopsy report showed a forced burnt injury on the chest wall.

The Prosecution fielded three witnesses as the defendant Egoyibo Ugbomem testified by calling two witnesses on 7/5/2024.
Egoyibo Ugbomem was convicted by Justice Enenmo at the same court and sentenced to 21 years imprisonment with hard labor starting from when he was arrested.
