Two weeks after he was decorated and appointed as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police to represent the South-South zone, Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate posting of Deputy Inspector General, DIG Jonathan Towuru, to DIG Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Force Headquarters Abuja.
The posting, which is with immediate effect, is contained in a wireless message dated Wednesday, January 22, and addressed to all the formations, Commands, and units in the police force.
The memo obtained on Wednesday night stressed that the posting is with immediate effect.
Towuru’s redeployment comes exactly two weeks after he was decorated and appointed as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police to represent the South-South zone.
On January 8, the Police Service Commission appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police Towuru as the new Police DIG representing the South-South geopolitical zone.
The PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, in a statement, said Towuru would succeed DIG Daniel Pedro, who retired as the DIG in charge of Information and Communications Technology.
“Born on December 6, 1965, in Ouwodo Kpokpo Olomu, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, DIG Towuru brings a wealth of experience from his extensive career in the Nigeria Police Force.
“His previous assignments include serving as Assistant Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Enugu, in 2011; Deputy Force Secretary at Force Headquarters, Abuja, in 2012 and 2019; Deputy Commandant of the Police College, Maiduguri, in 2014; Commissioner of Police, Western Port, Apapa, Lagos, in 2022; and AIG, Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar, Cross River State,” the statement said.
Before the new appointment, he was Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone 6, Calabar in Cross River State.
The police wireless message titled: “TH.5361/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.5/246 X Posting Senior Officer,” partly read:
“INGENPOL has ordered the posting of DIGPOL Jonathan Towuru, mni to DIG FCID FHQ ABJ. Posting is with immediate effect please.”
