Iwhrekpokpor community in Ughelli north local government area of Delta State, at the weekend, elected a new central executive body that will pilot the affairs of the community for the next four years, with Comrade Godspower Owhe emerging as the winner having polled total votes of 179 to defeat his rival, Mr. Kelly Evumovwe who polled 26 votes.
The Rainbow Newspaper correspondent who monitored the exercise authoritatively reported that the election began with the accreditation of delegates at 10.00 am at the community town hall under water-tight security.
Rainbow Newspaper reported that 215 delegates were accredited and 205 votes cast, while 10 were void.
Others elected are; Urhue Johnson Anya (Vice President 1), Prince Onojegbe O. Editing (Vice President 11), Mr. Stanley Edafe Emavworhe (Secretary General), Ejiro Omjevu Omoluwa -Treasurer, Mr. Owhe Johnbull – Financial Secretary, Mr. Agoro Friday – Auditor, Mr. Edafe Evans Idudu – Provost 1 and Mr. Precious Akporigho – Provost 11.
In his manifestos, the winner of the election, Godspower Owhe, assured that if elected, he would run an all-inclusive government and open-door policy that would further the development of the community.
While declaring the results of the election, the returning officer, Mr Godwin Onoaphie, said a total of 215 people were accredited and a total of 212 votes cast, while three votes were voided for underage.
Declaring the winner of the election, Onoaphie said by the power vested on me by the community as the returning officer of the election, I hereby declared Mr. Godspower Owhe, having pulled the highest votes cast 179 votes to defeat his co-contestant, Mr. Kelly Evumovwe, who pulled 26 votes as the winner of the election.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected and inaugurated president general of the Iwhrekpfokpor community, Godspower Owhe, thanks the elders and leaders, women and youths, and the electoral committee for the free and fair election.
He assured that his reign as the President General of the community would usher a new breath of relief for every son and daughter of the community.
“My government will create a WhatsApp platform where sons and daughters of Iwhrekpokpor will share their views and suggestions for the overall development of the community”, he assured.
Earlier, the most senior man of the community, Pa Joseph Ugbi Akpoyereabor appealed to all sons and daughters of the community to live in love and harmony.
