WARRI – HIS Royal Majesty, Albert Akpomudje, SAN, Eyavwien-Alaka I, the Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, Vice Chairman, Body of Benchers, has described the former National Democratic Congress (NDC) aspirant for Ughelli North, South and Udu federal constituency, Comrade Johnny Obakporor,o as a politician with a difference and commended his political sagacity.

HRM Akpomudje, SAN, Eyavwien-Alaka I, made the commendation when the NDC former House of Representatives member paid him a “Thank You Visit” at his Effurun chamber in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to the revered monarch, in his speech said his coming was a pleasant surprise, saying it is not rare among Nigerian politicians to come back and say thank you for supporting him in my political journey, even though they won the election.

While commending his political sagacity, the revered monarch said if all politicians were like Comrade Johnny Obakpororo, Nigeria would be better.
His words: “The extent of which I know Nigerian politicians, it hardly happens, and if we play politics like this, I think Nigeria will be a better place.
“First you listen to the voice of your people and you stepdown, politicians never step down, but you listen to them, it’s very important but many would rather go into the battlefield and slog it out spend time, spend money at the end of the day make more enemies than friends but here you did not just listen to the people, you didn’t end there you came back to them to say thank you.
“It is not a very common trait among many politicians in Nigeria, so I really want to thank you, and if our politicians can take a cue from you and understand politics, they will know that politics should not be a matter of do or die.
“There are times you listen and look at the best interest of yourself and those you want to lead, let me tell you Obas you’ve made a mark it shows that you are a trusted person, you are a trusted politician and I’m sure you’ve just started this is a very good beginning and I assure you that your reign will be very long because you’re gathering the confidence of the people so next time when you come they would say is it not this man and things will becomes easier from there on.
“So I really appreciate your efforts in stepping down and listening to the voice of the people, and more importantly, coming to say thank you even though you did not get what you want; you still come and say thank you”.

Earlier, the former House of Representatives while addressing newsmen he said his reasons for visiting the king first were born out of his respect for the king and tradition.
According to him, I’m an Urhobo man, and we are from this place; people do not respect our king anymore; they are the traditional rulers; after God, they are the people we respect. So whatever we do, we always seek their presence and prayers. Their prayers go a long way in helping us in our daily lives.
“When I started this race of politics, the first people I sought prayers from were the kings in my area, and even in my daily work I also seek their prayers and their guidance.

Once in a while I also call them and reach out to them to tell me the way to go and how to go about it, after the primaries I also call them to tell them about the decisions we are taking and you see from what the king said “his is the best way to go, that if I continue like this it’s going to help me a lot in the feature.
“It’s not about the politics; it is about our way of life. It’s about our traditions. I respect people’s opinions in life and also like the way people respect my own opinion. My political opinion is quite different, but I mean well for myself; that’s the same way I mean well for anybody who likes the way I do my things.
When asked for his advice for his team supporters, he said, people’s opinions are politically different; whatever they decide they want to do is their personal opinion, and I will respect it. Wherever they want to go in politics, I will allow them to make their decisions.
“I’m no longer in the race, am no longer contesting, so I will respect whatever decisions they want to make when it comes to politics. We don’t know what the feature hold; the future is pregnant”, he stated.
