31st Anniversary: Foundation Empowers Over 100 Widows In Delta

UGHELLI – In memory of his resounding legacy, the Olotu and Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete Foundation in conjunction with the entire members of late Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete of Otor- Iwhreko in Ughelli North local government marked the 31st anniversary of Barrister Rowland Akpodiete with a widows’ empowerment programme on April 9, 2026.
The well-attended, event held at the Iwhreko community town hall, Ughelli saw the presence of dignitaries from all walks of life including the most senior chief of the great Ughelli kingdom, Olorogun Millet Obrikogho Uloho and Chief Morrison Obaseki Olori.
In his welcome address, the Executive Director of Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete Foundation, Hon. Dr. Olotu Akpodiete JP, discloses that the foundation is committed to continuing to uphold their late father’s legacy through impactful community initiatives, focusing on sustainable development, education, healthcare, Security and empowerment programs.
He described his late grandfather as a trailblazer because he was the first qualified lawyer of Ughelli descendant, a principled and humble man.
In his speech, the special guest of honour, Olorogun Miller Uloho, praised late Chief Ekuogbe’s contributions to the Iwhreko community, Ughelli Kingdom, Delta State, and Nigeria as a whole adding that his legacy is worth emulating.
Meanwhile, Chief Dr Morrison Obaseki Olori, urged the children to remain united and promote their late father’s good works.
The highlight of the event was the empowerment of over 100 widows from Ughelli North, South, and Udu local government areas of Delta State with cash, gifts and wrappers.
Beneficiaries expressed delight at the gesture, praying for the family’s continued success as Dr. Akpodiete assured that the empowerment programme would be an annual event benefiting other areas of life.
The 31st anniversary was rounded off with the second edition of the novelty football match between the children and grandchildren of the late Chief Akpodiete in honour of their late father, Chief Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete held at Clifford Cassidy Play Ground, popularly known as General Government Field Ughelli. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

According to Dr Olotu Akpodiete, the novelty match was aimed at encouraging and developing the skills of young footballers and would be an annual event.

The event witnessed the presentation of Life Achievements Awards to Olorogun Miller Uloho and Olorogun Morrison Obaseki Olori for their outstanding service to humanity by Olorogun Osia Akpodiete.
