There’s No Life, Governance In Delta State Since Gov Oborevwori Defected To APC – Erhabor *Gov. Oborevwori, APC is in total disarray in Delta State

•Says Delta State is docile since April 2025

    By Matthias Ogbagah

“They went to the APC with stones and dust and cockroaches. People who were once known to be giants, lions, and tigers are now flying like cockroaches in another political party. Causing mayhem and confusion in their new political party”.

UGHELLI – A chieftain of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State and also Acting Chairman of PDP Ughelli ward 2/6, Comrade Ogheneovo Irabor has said that there is no life in Delta State since the PDP elected governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in April 2025.

Erhabor, who was fielding questions from the Rainbow Newspaper lamented the deplorable situation of Delta State since the governor who was elected on the platform of the People Democratic Party (PDP) and all elected House of Assembly members on the platform of PDP defected to the ruling party at the national level, the All Progressive Congress (APC).

According to him, since the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the All Progressive Congress (APC), there has been no meaningful development in the state, saying the best that has happened in the state is the governor and his political appointees moving from one ceremony to another.

His word: “We know that there has been no life in Delta State since April. All we have been having are governors and political appointees moving from one ceremony to another.

“There has been no governance in Delta State since April 2025. Since the entire House of Assembly moved with the governor to APC, all they have been doing is yes sir.
“There is no commissioner that you will hear or a member of the State Executive Council you will hear that is doing something good in his community”.

Lamenting further, Irabor alleged that since April 2025, Delta State is docile, all they do is withdraw our money and attend ceremonies.

“When they pass you with a siren, you think they are going somewhere, but in the end, you end up seeing pictures of them in ceremonies. So it has been the party jamboree, since the exodus of the governor and his co-travelers in the state.

According to him, the ongoing flyover projects in the state and the Ughelli/Asaba road completion are the brainchild of the PDP before they defected to the APC. They were not born when they went to APC. Every tangible project that we are expecting was born while the PDP flag was still flying in the government house. We have not seen any tangible thing that came out since they changed from the umbrella to the broom.

Lambasting the governor and his co-defectors, he said, they went to the APC with stones and dust and cockroaches. People who were once known to be giants, lions, and tigers are now flying like cockroaches in another political party. Causing mayhem and confusion in their new political party.

That’s why you are seeing that they have parallel executives already. Even the state chairman is already on his way out. He noted.

“The party (APC) they pitch a tent with is in total disarray. In Ughelli North local government area, they have two chairmen, and in the Ethiopia West LGA, they have two chairmen, so the party and those in the party are in disarray and in a political quagmire.

Communal Crisis Imminent In Delta As Ewu Community Allegedly Wears Court’s Shoe Over Land Dispute

•As Edjekota Community decries the continuous violation of the court order by the Ewu community

By Matthias Ogbagah & Ufuoma Idoroh

UGHELLI – An Inevitable Inter-communal crisis is imminent in Delta State as two communities of Delta State, Edjekota–Ogor in Ughelli North and Ewu–Urhobo in Ughelli South councils, are set to draw the battle lines if the Delta State government does not act fast.

Rainbow Newspaper reliably gathered that tension is mounting high as parties from the Ewu-Urhobo community in the disputed land case allegedly violated the court order and the Delta State order barred both parties from entering the land in dispute.

Our correspondent authoritatively gathered that tensions are visibly fuming as the Edjekota-Ogor community called on the Delta State government to call the Ohwodo family of the Ewu-Urhobo community to order before the issues snowball into a total showdown.

Speaking to Rainbow Newspaper at Ughelli, the president general of Edjekota-Ogor worldwide, Pastor Oghenemakpor Uyoh decried the continuous violation of the sustaining court orders and Delta State orders on both parties.
He alleged that the families of Ohwodo of Ewu-Urhobo community in Ughelli South on Sunday night ignored the order of the court and the Delta State government order by destroying to its foundation an ongoing building project on a parcel of land not in the litigated land case.
“The building they destroyed to its very foundation is not in the land in dispute; the building has been there before the crisis that rocked both communities in April this year.
“The owner of the building started the foundation of the building long before the crisis, when he was building the land hoodlums entered the premises, vandalized all the rods erected for the building. This caused the owner of the building to pause the work till recently, when he went back to continuing working at the site.
It would be recalled that the same Ohwodo family recently accused the entire Edjekota community of selling 15 hectares of the land in dispute and erecting new buildings on the land.
However, their claims were met with brick walls as Pastor Oghenemakpor Uyoh fired back saying that the land in dispute is lying fallow pending the outcome of the committee set up by the Delta State government.
“Even before they went there to arrest our people who are carrying out their legitimate farm work on the said land early this year, which resulted in a crisis that led to the death of some persons from our community, the issue has been in court in Edjophe.
He disclosed further that last month, the families of Ohwodo of Ewu-Urhobo cried foul to disparage the pubic that Edjekota–Ogor people laid siege to Ewu-Urhobo and gave false information to the Nigeria police that Edjekota people violated the Delta State and the court, and fifteen hectares of land in the disputed land.
According to him, the police and council chairmen of Ughelli North South’s preliminary findings indicate that there is no iota of truth in their allegation, and they were seriously cautioned.
While putting the records straight for record purposes, Pastor Oghenemakpor Uyoh said that the land dispute is between a particular family in Ewu-Urhobo community (Ohwodo family) and some families in Edjekota-Ogor, not between the entire Edjekota community and Ewu-Urhobo community, as the Ohwodo family is always claiming.

  • Nigeria Is Quietly Drifting Into A One-Party State And The World Is Watching

Nigeria Is Quietly Drifting Into A One-Party State And The World Is Watching

By Oke Umurhohwo, Ughelli, Delta State
Nigeria is entering a dangerous phase of political consolidation, one that is unfolding not through coups or decrees, but through quieter maneuvers that hollow out democratic competition from within. At the center of this shift is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose administration has overseen the most dramatic collapse of opposition strength since the return to civilian rule in 1999.
The primary target is the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), once the continent’s largest political machine and Nigeria’s dominant party for 16 years. Today, it is fighting for survival, not because voters have rejected it at the ballot box, but because its structure is being systematically weakened through inducement, coercion, and internal sabotage.
The most visible instrument of this internal unraveling is Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Mr. Wike still claims PDP membership, yet his actions have consistently bolstered the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Since Mr. Tinubu took office in 2023, the PDP has lost four sitting governors, two former governors, scores of federal and state lawmakers, and hundreds of local power brokers, overwhelmingly to the APC.
Delta State provides a particularly striking example. In April 2025, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, himself a former PDP vice-presidential candidate; crossed over to the ruling party. Within weeks, long-stalled federal projects were revived. The timing raised a question Nigerians have learned to ask too often: Are we witnessing genuine ideological realignment, or political pressure dressed up as choice?
Similar patterns have emerged across the country. Officials who remain in the PDP often find federal allocations threatened, development funds delayed, long-promised projects suspended, or their security architecture suddenly reshaped. Those who defect frequently experience an immediate reversal of fortunes.
These are not subtle signals; they shape the calculations of every politician operating under Nigeria’s hyper-centralized political economy.
Mr. Tinubu understands this terrain well. He built his legacy resisting an overbearing PDP government that once boasted it would rule for 60 years. His critique then was that democracy could not survive without robust competition. That insight remains true, which is why the current trajectory is so troubling.
The appointment of Mr. Wike in 2023 was a defining moment. He had spent the previous election cycle fracturing PDP unity, spearheading the G-5 rebellion, and openly defying his own party’s presidential ticket. His new role offered him both federal power and political immunity. In the months since, he has exercised outsized influence: boycotting reconciliation efforts, dissolving the PDP’s Board of Trustees, suspending party officers, and daring the party to discipline him, knowing that presidential backing shields him from consequences.
This is not a normal party competition. It is the quiet consolidation of dominance.
The implications stretch far beyond partisan rivalry. When opposition parties cannot function freely, corruption grows without resistance, economic missteps go unchallenged, and citizens lose nonviolent avenues to express political frustration. Democratic institutions like the courts, electoral bodies, and legislatures, amongst others, have become increasingly vulnerable to executive pressure.
Nigeria cannot afford this slide. It is Africa’s most populous nation and its largest economy. What happens here shapes the region: migration flows, extremist activity, economic stability, and governance norms across West Africa. A Nigeria without credible political competition is not merely weakened internally; it becomes a source of regional uncertainty.
The international community has been slow to respond. Foreign missions in Abuja are aware of the pressures facing opposition governors. They understand the significance of heavy security deployments around PDP headquarters during internal leadership battles. Yet the global reaction has largely been silent, replaced by diplomatic caution, geopolitical pragmatism, and an eagerness to celebrate Nigeria’s economic reforms without questioning their political context.
But reforms cannot be sustainably anchored in a democracy whose foundations are eroding.
President Tinubu still has the opportunity to demonstrate that the democratic values he championed in opposition did not expire with his rise to power. He can end the quiet financial and institutional pressure applied to opposition-controlled states. He can withdraw political cover from those who destabilize parties from within. And he can commit publicly to ensuring that the 2027 elections are genuine contests, not preordained ceremonies.
Nigeria’s democracy is not yet lost, but it is being suffocated in slow motion. The first step to saving it is naming what is happening. The second is acting before the nation wakes up to find that a one-party state has hardened around it, not through constitutional amendment, but by the incremental weakening of every alternative voice.
A country that once fought to break political monopoly must not become the architect of a new one.

“As it is today, Nigeria has no ambassador anywhere in the world. If our people in diaspora are having issues, who will speak for them, or to whom do they go? As we speak, embassy buildings across the nation have not been renewed in their yearly renewals.
“Our nation is in isolation from other nations of the world, which is why Donald Trump can talk to us anyhow. Incompetent leadership and lawless government are the bane of our country, Nigeria”

ASABA – Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the political atmosphere in Delta State was charged on Saturday as the African Democratic Congress, ADC, unveiled its coalition partners in the State, with a vow to reclaim Nigeria’s lost glory.

Speaking during the coalition unveiling ceremony, former Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Lauretta Onochie, who is also a former Special Assistant on Digital and Social Media to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, said Nigeria was worth fighting for.

According to her, ADC was not merely a political party. “It is a movement; our vision is to build a country where leadership is responsible, where institutions are strengthened, and where every Nigerian is safe”, she said.

“Nigeria as a nation is engulfed in acute Poverty, hunger, and diseases has take over all our country, parents can no longer provide three square meals on table, our children are driven away from school now and then because parents can no longer afford to pay their children or wards school fees, even buying of fuel in our cars has becomes a problem.

Lamenting further, she said, the problem is not peculiar to individuals alone, Federal ministries are not funded, federal agencies are left dead with nothing to run their agencies am talking about the appointees of government how can they work for us, federal institutions across the nation with leaders appointed for them are left with nothing to run their establishment.

Incompetent leadership and lawless government are the bane of our country, Nigeria, she noted.

Speaking during the coalition unveiling ceremony held in Asaba, the Delta State capital, Chairman of the party in the State, Mr. Austine Okolie, emphasised the need for Nigeria to rise and shine again and take its rightful place as the pride and giant of Africa.

Speaking further, he observed with dissatisfaction that every sector of the country’s economy was in distress, he said human capital development was “declining.
According to him, hunger and insecurity have become the order of the day; our roads are crumbling, power supply is unstable, healthcare is unaffordable, education is underfunded, unemployment is fueling crime, and our infrastructure is decaying, he noted.
His words: “Leadership failure has become a norm. The welfare of our citizens, which should be the highest priority, has been ignored. And so, we must ask: how did we get here?”
He, however, urged Nigerians not to lose hope, saying that the ADC was out with an answer of hope, credibility, and purposeful leadership.

Okolie maintained that the party was determined to restore the soul of the nation, calling on Deltans and all well-meaning Nigerians “to join us in this national rescue mission under the banner of the ADC, the only credible alternative political platform that bears the symbol of the handshake of total redemption with a renewed mantra, Arise and Shine Nigeria.”
“We cannot achieve this by sitting on the fence. There is strength in unity. The people have now united under ADC to redeem the image and dignity of our great nation.”

Speaking on behalf of the coalition partners, former aspirant for the House of Representatives seat for the Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency, Chief Julius Akpovoka, said the party was determined to win the 2027 general election.
He noted that with the coalition, the ADC “has over 200,000 members in the State. We will do more to ensure that we have more than 500,000 members and once we have that, we are home and dry.”

    By Ogba O. Ogba

UGHELLI – The ruling party in Delta State, the All Progressives Congress (APC), is engulfed in a battle to survive in the Delta Central senatorial district, a situation political analysts described as “a Political party in a sinking ship,” as Dr. Olotu Akpodiete and Oke Umurhohwo teamed to restore Ughelli/Udu federal constituency to the PDP.

Akpodiete, full of enthusiasm and commitment to rescue the ruling political party in the state, said in an interview with Rainbow Newspaper in Abuja that the PDP will take its rightful position in the forthcoming general elections in the country.
According to him, the defection that hit the party in April has nothing to do with the party’s victory in the 2027 elections. The party is now repositioned for a resounding win in every election because the enemies of the party have abandoned the party for the rightful owners.

“I will bring good representation to Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu (U3) federal constituency if elected. The constituency has not been well represented in the green chamber; I am going there to bring dividends of democracy to the constituents of Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu (U3) federal constituency.
” We will suffocate and sink APC in Delta central, we have all it takes to take back the legacy and glory of our great party, PDP, in Delta central.
“Our former members who are in political wildernesses, if they can retrace their political footsteps, we will reconsider them for political baptism before readmitting them into the PDP folds in the state”, Akpodiete stated.
Also speaking to Rainbow Newspaper correspondent in Lagos State, the House of Assembly candidate for Ughelli constituency 2 in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Oke Umurhohwo, said the time has come for the constituents of Ughelli constituency to emancipate themselves from their self-imposed political quagmires.

“In 2023, I contested for the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) seat to represent Ughelli North Constituency 2, and I remain committed to that aspiration as we approach 2027. My goal is to champion policies that open up opportunities for youths, improve access to education, strengthen local economies, and bring governance closer to the people.

Yerima, the National Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Ambassador Godknows Boladei Igali, has said the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, deserves a national apology over the recent confrontation with a naval officer in Abuja.

Igali, who spoke with journalists at the Port Harcourt International Airport on his way to Lagos, expressed concern over what he described as the “social media glamourisation” of the improper conduct of the officer, identified as Lt. A.M. Yerima, allegedly acting on the orders of a retired service chief.

He said the development was not only a personal affront to the FCT Minister but also a public embarrassment to the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, whose powers are vested in the FCT Minister.

“Chief Wike, without doubt, is one of the best performing ministers in this administration and deserves to be treated with respect and decorum,” Igali said.

The former ambassador added, “The incident amounts to open disdain for the office of the President and the authority it represents.”

The former federal permanent secretary and diplomat condemned the involvement of military personnel in non-military assignments, describing the incident as “a horrible spectacle” that undermines civil authority and professional discipline.

He said the act of deploying naval personnel to guard or monitor private properties was “illegal, dangerous, and outside the Navy’s core constitutional mandate.”

“The Minister of the FCT deserves an unconditional apology from the leadership of the Nigerian Navy, on behalf of the retired service chief and the helpless young officer involved,” the PANDEF leader stated.

Igali urged President Bola Tinubu to order a full investigation into the matter, noting that accountability was necessary to preserve professionalism within the armed forces and uphold respect for constituted civil authority.

“If not checked, such overzealousness could erode the foundations of our democracy. The FCT Minister must be fully protected as he continues to discharge his duties with passion and commitment”, he added.
