UGHELLI – THE Chairman of the Committee for the Creation of Urhobo State, Rt. Hon. Christopher Ominimini Obiuewevbi recently in Ughelli revealed that a draft bill for the proposed Urhobo State is ready.
Chief Ominimini made the disclosure during a crucial meeting of the committee for the creation of Urhobo State held in Ughelli the then capital of central Urhobo alongside Chief Dr. Wilson Omene, Hon. Barr. Ben Etanabene , and member representing Okpe, Sapele, and Uvwie Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
According to Chief Ominimini, the draft bill has been prepared, but Hon. Etanabene is awaiting delineation details, including the proposed local government areas (LGAs) and their headquarters, to incorporate them into the document, adding that the meeting aimed to finalize key details for the bill.
“Since our committee on delineation could not provide a report, we have worked closely with Hon. Barr. Etanabene, a dedicated Urhobo advocate, to determine the best way forward,” Chief Ominimini stated.
He assured stakeholders that the bill would soon be sponsored and presented by Hon. Etanabene in the House of Representatives.
The proposed Urhobo State, if approved, would be a significant milestone for the Urhobo people, promoting regional development and autonomy.
Chief Ominimini thanked all stakeholders for their continued support and commitment to the cause.
