Ogor Crisis: Women, Youths Reject Community PG, Sends SOS To Gov. Oborevwori

OGOR – Crisis looming in Otor-Ogor community in Ughelli North local government area, Delta State, as community women, youths and elders rejected the community President General, Mr. Emmanuel Edirin, for his maladministration, high-handedness, insubordination and defiance of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s executive order on illegal collections popularly known as ‘DEVE’ from developers.
The Rainbow Newspaper authoritively report that the problem started when the community’s President General (PG) turned tyrannical, bullying, harassing and assaulting elders, women and youths of the community.
Speaking to selected journalists across Delta State at the gate of Ogor palace after a show of appreciation and solidarity to the monarch of the kingdom, HRM Okiuemute Igere I, for his quick intervention in the release of the nine community members who were forcefully arrested.
While lamenting the untold hardship, humiliation, and tortures melted on the citizenry of the community, the duo of Mrs. Paris Oghenetejiri and APC assistant woman leader, Mrs. Lorita Eshere, narrated the ordeals of the community members to journalists.
According to them, the chairman, upon his assumption in office, started selling people’s land and the community’s evil forests. He constituted his own security outfit code-named “Operation No Mercy”, a security force he used to intimidate and oppress the less privileged members of the community.
“He removed my husband his vice chairman from the Exco members of the community because my husband asked him why him sell a plot of land belong to his father, and for my mother-in-law to him that he don’t has right to sold her late husband’s land used as evil forests of the community, he directed his boys to disconnect my mother-in-law’s residential, brother-in-law house from source of power supply”, Mrs. Oghenetejiri lamented.
Why did he disconnected Mr. Henry Aruero from BEDEC:
According to the women, Mr. Henry Aruero, a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Otor-Ogor community, told the community chairman not to take the glory of another man’s hard labour.
“Henry told the chairman the water project at the community primary school was done by SUPEB, not your administration, you only did renovation, so no need to commission it again and the chairman was flabbergasted, ordered him to go to his house and disconnect his house from the electricity power source of the community.
“We embarked on the peaceful protest because our community chairman has turned tyrannical and a cloak in the trout of the community members. We don’t want him again; he should resign. We need peace; we don’t want trouble in our community. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori should come to our aid.
“To cover up his shame and atrocities, he conspired with some persons in the community and in the Ughelli North council to leave the issues at hand and cry foul by alleging that we are working against Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
“We want to put the records straight, we, the concerned citizens of Otor-Ogor community, we are one hundred per cent (100%) for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori come 2027, he has done well for Deltans. The chairman is anti- Sheriff Oborevwori; we have removed his pictures from any banner beat Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s picture.
“He arrested nine members of the community, including his father-in-law, band not to do any work in the community for two years. He beat our children at his will for no reason.
Hon. Peter Adjekpiyede’s account:
The community chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Edirin a.k.a UK has no respect for humanity, he arogated autocratic power to himself, in Otor-Ogor community we are all belong to one political family party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), when my son was to register at the ongoing voters registration exercise he said my son will not register I enquired he said he spent a lot of money to bring the INEC machine to the community and anybody who is not loyal to his government will not register.
Lamenting further, Adjekpiyede disclosed that the chairman hit his mouth three times, thereby inflicting injuries in the mouth, and he reported the matter at the Police ‘A’ Division, Ughelli and at the INEC office.
“We don’t know peace in the community, if you don’t do his bid he tags you enemy, if you want build house in the community you most give him to trips of sharp sand, to pack to your house you must pay one hundred and thirty thousand naira (N130,000.00) and to connect your electricity power supply you must pay, if you have any personal issues with him the first thing he does is to disconnect your light. We are tired of all these his maladministration”, Adjekpiyede lamented.
At the time of filling this report, tension mounted high as massive arrests and fighting became visible.
When contacted, the embattled community chairman denied all the allegations levelled against him, saying Hon. Peter Adjekpiyede allegedly committed an abominable offence against the community and ancestors of the land, hence he was punished by disconnected light as stipulated in the community’s constitution.
