UGHELLI – The political cold war between the council chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Hon. Jaro Egbo and a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Amb. Alex Tobore Agbah, has degenerated to another dimension at the weekend as Egbo allegedly seized a truck loaded with building materials belonging to the latter.

Reacting to the development, the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Ughelli North, the main opposition political party in Delta State, threatened to embark on a massive peaceful protest if the council failed to release the truck with the goods it carries.
The leadership of the NDC Ughelli North made the threat during a press briefing held at the premises of the NDC House of Representatives candidate for Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu federal constituency, Chief Dr Christopher Obiuwevwi Ominimini.
Speaking on Monday, October 19, 2026, during the press briefing, Ominimini accused the council boss, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, of political victimisation, intimidation and abuse of office, and threatened to mobilise NDC members, market women, youths, students, artisans, transport workers and other concerned stakeholders across Ughelli North and all aggrieved residents for a mass peaceful protest.
“If the truck is not released within 72 hours, we will be left with no other option than to mobilise our millions of members, market women, youths, students, artisans, transport workers and other concerned stakeholders for a peaceful protest if the truck is not released immediately.
“This is a clear case of political witch-hunt. The truck committed no offence. It was seized simply because it belongs to Amb. Alex Tobore Agbah, who is a strong voice of the NDC in Ughelli North.
“This is an attempt to cripple him economically and to intimidate our members ahead of future political activities.”

While calling on the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to urgently intervene and save the situation from degenerating into crisis, NDC and Ominimini
alleged that since the emergence of Olorogun Jaro Egbo as the council chairman, opposition figures in the council area have come under sustained harassment and intimidation.
The party urged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, as a matter of urgency, to direct the council chairman to release the truck unconditionally and to warn local government chairmen across the state against using their offices to settle political scores.
“We are peace-loving people, but we will not fold our arms and watch our chieftain being oppressed. The continued detention of that truck is an attack on the entire NDC family in Ughelli North. If the government does not act, we will take to the streets to demand justice,” the party threatened.
The NDC also called on security agencies, traditional rulers, the Delta State House of Assembly and civil society organisations to intervene to ensure that democracy is not undermined at the grassroots.
Party leaders claimed that despite all entreaties, the council has refused to release the vehicle, insisting that the action was politically motivated.
As at the time of filing this report, a probable showdown and shutdown loomed in the council area as all efforts to get the reaction of the Ughelli North Council Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, proved abortive, as calls and messages sent to his known phone number were not answered.
