*Suspend Two Lawmakers Within One Week

ASABA – MEMBERS of Delta State House of Assembly have publicly lambasted and expressed their dissatisfactions with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s lackadaisical approach and delay in releasing funds meant for constituency projects across the twenty-five local government areas of the state, suspend two house members for alleged gross misconducts.
The members under the platform of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the major opposition political party, All Progressives Congress (APC), frowned at the governor for not releasing constituency funds to them a year after the Assembly was inaugurated.
It was reliably gathered that some of the members are using their money to execute constituency projects because they made promises to their people before the 2023 election.
“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has not released constituency funds to the lawmakers for projects.
“It is very bad to have a delay and as I speak to you now, the lawmakers are not happy.
“Some of them have started executing some projects with their money because they promised their constituents during the election,” a source said.
Also, another close aide to the Speaker said that the issue of constituency funds is based in the government house and not the Speaker.
“The matter is not here in the Assembly; it is a government house issue. Though, I heard that it has been released to some members while some have not gotten”.
Another version had it that the other reason why the lawmakers are sad, though some appear happy outwardly, is that they have not gotten it rosy on like previous administrations where lawmakers go to the bank smiling and can perform.
A source said even principal officers in the house are yet to see what their predecessors enjoyed in their time.
Multiple sources said the current wave of suspension by the Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor-led Assembly may not be unconnected to the suffering and smiling situation faced by these lawmakers.
It would be recalled that within a week, the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), suspended its two members over alleged gross misconduct.

The member representing Ukwuani State Constituency, Hon. Chukudi Dafe, was suspended on November 6, 2024.
His counterpart representing Bomadi State Constituency in the House, Hon (Engr) Oboro Kenneth Preyor, was suspended on November 13, 2024.
Both members were suspended for 14 legislative days for alleged gross misconduct.
The motion which suspended Hon. Dafe, was moved by the Majority Leader of the House and member representing Aniocha north State Constituency, Engr. Emeka Nwaobi.
The motion was seconded by the Chief Whip, Hon. Perkins Umukoro, and was adopted.
Also, the motion suspending Hon Preyor was moved by the same Majority Leader, Hon Nwaobi, and it was seconded by the member representing Ughelli North 1 constituency, Hon Mathew Omonade, and adopted.
Following the adoption of the motion, the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, directed the Sergeant-At-Arm to escort the suspended Lawmaker out of the Hallowed Chamber.
The Speaker announced that an ad-hoc Committee would be set up to investigate the issues that led to the suspension of both lawmakers.
