A Brutally Honest Assessment of Leadership in Delta State APC I’m

By Abania

In politics, true leadership is defined by action, grassroots influence, and electoral impact—not by photo-ops, empty rhetoric, or self-imposed titles. In Delta State APC, the battle for supremacy should not be about media presence in Abuja but about who can genuinely deliver victory for the party, consolidate its gains, and expand its political stronghold.

Let’s be brutally honest: who truly deserves to be called a leader in Delta APC?

1. Local Political Relevance vs. Political Ushering in Abuja

“All politics is local.”

Is the leader:
• The one who is doing political usher’s work in Abuja, busy snapping photos with dignitaries, disconnected from his ward and state?
• Or the one who is acting as a political evangelist in Delta State, moving across all Local Government Areas, engaging grassroots members, and mobilizing real support for APC?

The answer is clear: APC needs a leader on the ground, not a photo-shoot politician in Abuja. Delta State votes will not be won in banquet halls but in the streets, markets, and communities.

2. Imposing Leadership vs. Allowing Party Democracy

“Power is taken, not given.”

Is the leader:
• The one who sits in Abuja and appoints “the only authentic leader” of a Senatorial District, without consulting party stakeholders in the state?
• Or the one who respects internal democracy, allowing grassroots members to choose their leaders, build structures, and strengthen APC from within?

A real leader does not dictate from Abuja but builds consensus at home. Politics is a game of alliances, not appointments.

3. Political Activist vs. Political Strategist

Is the leader:
• A political activist known for making noise, giving speeches, and engaging in political commentary?
• Or a tested politician with real electoral victories, political sagacity, and the ability to win elections?

The difference is stark: Activists talk; politicians deliver. APC in Delta does not need an activist—it needs a proven strategist.

4. Media Publicity vs. Grassroots Engagement

Is the leader:
• The one who glorifies APC’s electoral victories without admitting who fought and won the political battles?
• Or the one who moves across Delta State, engaging party members and leaders, consolidating past victories, and convincing opposition leaders to defect to APC?

The reality is simple: Victory is not sustained through social media posts but through real political groundwork.

5. Personal Electoral Participation vs. Political Restriction

Is the leader:
• One who, due to his religion, cannot vote, be voted for, or directly participate in elections?
• Or one who, along with his family, fully participates in elections, contesting, voting, and influencing electoral processes?

Delta APC needs a leader who can actively contest and mobilize votes—not one who is politically restricted.

6. Delta Political Roots vs. Abuja/Lagos Political Career

Is the leader:
• Someone who has spent most of his political life in Lagos and Abuja, serving as an Honorable Minister for about nine years but lacking deep local ties?
• Or one who has been a key player in Delta politics since 1999—serving under Governor James Ibori, as Executive Assistant, Commissioner, Secretary to the State Government, two-term Senator, and Deputy Senate President?

A leader must have deep political roots in Delta, not just political connections in Abuja.

7. Delivering Dividends of Democracy vs. Empty Promises

Is the leader:
• One who, after nine years as a Federal Minister, cannot point to significant dividends of democracy for APC members in Delta?
• Or one whose tenure as Senator is marked by visible developmental projects, empowerment programs, and real impact in Delta State?

True leadership is measured by impact, not tenure. The people of Delta State know who has delivered and who has not.

8. Gathering Political Clouds Without Tempest vs. Building a Strong Political Storm

Is the leader:
• The one who claims to have Mr. President’s mandate but is busy in Abuja, gathering “political clouds without tempest”—having no real political followers?
• Or the one who truly works for Mr. President’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda, gathering “political clouds with tempest”—mobilizing strong political forces in Delta State to secure APC’s future?

Political power is about real followership, not self-praise. A leader who cannot command genuine support in Delta cannot claim to be a political heavyweight.

Final Thought: Time for Brutal Honesty, Not Showmanship

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

The future of APC in Delta State cannot be built on showmanship, empty media presence, or self-imposed titles. The party needs a strategic, battle-tested leader with deep local connections, real electoral victories, and the ability to unify and mobilize party members at all levels.

Let us leave Abuja’s theatrics and embrace the call for unity, grassroots mobilization, and political reality. Winning elections is not about personal ambition—it is about strategic leadership, genuine party-building, and electoral victories.

Just thinking aloud!
