New Year Inferno: Properties Worth Millions Of Naira Burnt In Delta Community

OZORO – TRAGEDY rocked Southern Delta University town, Ozoro, the administrative headquarters of Isoko North Local Government Council, Delta State, as early morning fire razed a fabrics shop on a New Year’s Day.
The early morning fire that engulfed the entire shop in the storey building situated along Idheze Road, Erovie Ozoro, according to an eyewitness account, started in the early hours of Thursday, January 1, 2026.
The eyewitnesses said the blaze spread rapidly, leaving no opportunity to salvage some of the fabrics or sewing machine items from the fabric store.
A Rainbow Newspaper correspondent who visited the scene of the inferno to assess the level of destruction by the fire reports that the fabrics shop belonging to one Mrs. Uzuzomaro Olize, an indigene of Ozoro Kingdom, was reduced to rubble by the fire, also destroying the roof of the building and its contents.
At the time of filing this report, the immediate remote causes of the inferno had not been ascertained.
A close relative of the shop owner who spoke with our correspondent, Comrade Ushurhe Mathew, Michael Oji, confirmed that nothing was recovered from the shop, noting that the entire structure was completely razed.
He appealed to the Delta State Government, as well as well-meaning individuals and organizations, to urgently come to the aid of Mrs. Uzuzomaro Olize with support that would enable her rebuild her business.
