UGHELLI – Committed to the fight against the nefarious activities of criminals in the Ughelli North Council area, the executive chairman of Ughelli North Local Government area, Olorogun (Barr) Jaro Egbo, has assured the council’s full support to Search for Common Ground initiatives.

Hon. Egbo plays host to members of the Local Peace Architecture (LPA) initiative, the SDN Project founded by the European Union, an initiative geared toward fighting insecurity in the country.

According to him, when he resumed office as executive chairman of Ughelli, north council area, the security situation was nothing to write about, but with the help of the amiable governor of the state, the situation was brought under control.

Egbo disclosed that upon resumption, he combed the forests along the East-West road and built security checking points in strategic points along Agbarho – Ughelli road and Ughelli, Evwreni, and Ohoro roads to arrest the menace of kidnappers, rubbers, and herders in the council area.

While commenting on the activities of Fulani herdsmen in Uhweru kingdom and its neighboring communities, he said the collaboration of the locals makes the fight against the nefarious activities of herders difficult; he assured that very soon, they will be rounded up by security operatives.

Egbo identified drug abuse and intake of illicit drugs as a bane of insecurity in the council area and the state as a whole.

While reading the riot act on drug abuse in the council area, he warned hoteliers who harbor the perpetrators in their facilities to desist from it to avoid the wrath of the council.

“We will shut down any hotel used as a collection center for illicit drug collection or drug abuse centers for a period of three or six months.”
