By Matthias OgbagahAGBARHO – DISTURBED by the recent wave of kidnapping and abduction of children in Agbarho, the boundary community between Ughelli North council area and Okpe local government area of Delta State, the state had assured the residents of Agbarho of government protection, vowed to bring the perpetrators to book if caught.

Governor Oborevwori gave the assurance on Saturday in Agbarho palace during his fact-finding mission into the recent wave of kidnappings and abduction of twenty-six teenagers in the community.

The Delta State governor who was represented by the executive chairman of Ughelli North council, Hon. (Barr) Jaro Egbo expressed shock adding that upon resumption in office with kind permission and assistance from the state governor, the criminal’s red spots and hideout in the council area were dismantled thereby reduced crime rate in the council.

Egbo expressed Governor Oborevwori’s readiness to give the residents of the Agbarho kingdom maximum security and protection of lives and properties. While calling for useful information from Agbarho residents and spirited Deltans that could lead to the arrest of the criminals, he said, the perpetrators, if caught, will be made to face the wrath of the law.

“We are here for a fact-finding mission, the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and Ughelli North council are disturbed by the recent protest by Agbarho women over the abduction of twenty-six children by unknown persons.
“We want to know if the claims of the protesting women are true and also to find the last solutions to the problem”.

Some of the parents of the abducted children who stormed the palace with wailing and crying as tears flowed freely narrated their ordeals in the hands of the criminals who abducted their children at will, and blamed the security agencies for compounding the situation.

“Our children were abducted within our premises while playing, some were lured with money, we have complained to the police in Agbarho”.

Speaking on behalf of the women, the spokesperson of Agbarho women (name withheld) gave the reasons why the women staged the streets of Agbarho with a peaceful protest.

According to her, within the space of two months, twenty-six children were abducted in different communities of Agbarho kingdom, and help is far away; hence, they embarked on a peaceful protest to draw the attention of the state government.

Meanwhile, the monarch of the Agbarho kingdom, HRM Samson Ohwe Ogugu, the Osuivie of Agbarho kingdom, expressed gratitude to the state government for its quick response, urging his subjects to remain calm as the government is taking control of the situation.
