In line with the constitution of the Association of Community Newspapers Publishers of Nigeria, ACNPN, the Publishers of Community News Media in Delta State, in its high-powered meeting held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, in Asaba, the state capital, dissolved the association executive members led by Mr. Jude Obiemenyego.
In a press release signed by its eleven members made available to newsmen in the state, stated in part;
“We, the Publishers of Community News Media in Delta State under the aegis of the Association of Community Newspapers Publishers of Nigeria, ACNPN, held a high-powered meeting today THURSDAY, August 29, 2024, to deliberate on the fate of the Association, at the end of which we highlighted the following:
“That the tenure of the Mr. Jude Obiemenyego-led Executive of the Delta State Chapter of the ACNPN came to an end in December 2023, having been elected in December 2020 for a second tenure.
“That since the Expiration of the Tenure in December 2023, Mr. Jude Obiemenyego has refused to put machinery in place to bring in a new Executive, instead, employing different tactics to continue to perpetuate himself in office.
“That the continued holding onto power by Mr. Jude Obiemenyego violates Article 15, Sub-Section ii and iii of the Association’s Constitution.
“That Mr. Jude Obiemenyego has resorted to using the platform of the Association as his Personal Enterprise, disenfranchising Members of the Association and taking unilateral decisions.
“That Mr. Jude Obiemenyego has refused to convene Meetings of the Association for over Six (6) Months, including today, Thursday, 29 August 2024, which is the Association’s Regular Monthly Meeting date.
Members who traveled from different parts of the State to Asaba for the meeting of today met the Association’s Secretariat locked as usual and had to go somewhere else to hold this Crucial Meeting.
In the light of the above, we resolved as follows:
1. That, we Members of ACNPN Delta State, hereby Pass a Vote of No Confidence on Mr. Jude Obiemenyego and his Executives.
2. That, due to the Expiration of Mr. Jude Obiemenyego-led Exco’s tenure since December 2023, we formally dissolve the said Jude Obiemenyego’s Exco of the Delta State ACNPN with immediate effect.
3. In light of the above, we hereby set up a Caretaker/Electoral Committee to pilot the affairs of the Association and conduct an Election to usher in a New Substantive Executive within Two (2) Months from TODAY, THURSDAY 29, AUGUST 2024, with the following: Dr. Dike Awana -Chairman, Madam Felida Es, si and Prince Godwin Obaigbena as Members of the Caretaker/Electoral Committee, respectively.
We therefore call on Mr. Jude Obiemenyego and all Members of his Executive to surrender all Documents/Properties of the Association in their possession to the Caretaker/Electoral Committee.
Finally, we call on members of the general public to henceforth desist from dealing with Mr. Jude Obiemenyego and/or any Member of his DISSOLVED EXECUTIVE in respect of the Delta State Chapter of ACNPN with immediate effect.
