Ughelli Killing: Insecurity Returns To Ughelli North As Oharisi, Others Killed In Cold Blood
By Ogba O. Ogba
UGHELLI – Pandemonium and palpable total collapse of laws and order enveloped Ughelli, the administrative headquarters of Ughelli North local government area, Delta State.
Rainbow Newspaper reliably gathered that trouble started last week as a rival cultist group resumed fights that led to the killing of no fewer than three persons.
While residents of Ughelli city were still sleeping with one eye closed and watching their backs whenever they went out about their normal business, they were greeted with devastating news of the murder of a promising young man, Mr. Idjesa Oharisi, a younger brother of the Ughelli monarch, HRM Evang. Wilson Ojakovo Oharisi by unknown gunmen.
An eyewitness account stated that late Idjesa Oharisi was coming home to meet his family when his assassin trailed him to his family compound, where he resided, and shot him at close range.
“We were inside the house, and suddenly we heard a sound like a gunshot. I rushed out only to see late Idjesa Oharisi in his pool of blood, struggling for survival, but before rescues votes his way, he has given the ghost”.
Speaking to Rainbow Newspaper and operatives of “Operation Delta Sweep” led by Captain Ibuza, he said the late Idjesa Oharisi killers did not waste a second after accomplishing their mission.
“It happened at about 8:45pm, he was going home to meet his wife and child, and he always passes through our compound to his house.
“We heard a sound of a gun and rushed out, but we did not see those who shot him; they had left before we came out. His assassins shot him in the head”.
It would be recalled that Ughelli has been in confusion since last week over unwarranted killing and manslaughter around Ughelli and its environs.
Penultimate Sunday, a housewife murdered her husband with a machete, inflicted injuries on her children, and two other women with matches and a hammer.
Meanwhile, the council boss, Hon. Jaro Egbo, has vowed to deal decisively with those responsible for the killings, just as he insisted that his administration will not negotiate with crime elements in the council area.
As of the time of filing the report, nobody has been arrested
