Ughelli Kingdom Reaffirms Faith in God at 15th Annual Prayer Gathering

UGHELLI – Residents and indigenes of Ughelli Kingdom, turned out en masse on Saturday as the kingdom observed the 15th edition of its annual Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving. This spiritual exercise has steadily grown into a unifying force for the community.
The event brought together clergy, churches, traditional chiefs, youth groups, and community stakeholders from across the kingdom’s 23 communities, all converging in an atmosphere marked by praise, reflection, and renewed hope for the future.
Addressing participants, the President, Ughelli Day of Prayer, Bishop Dr. Kingsley Enakirerhi, described the 15-year journey as a demonstration of divine guidance and collective dedication.
He noted that this year’s theme, “Divine Visitation,” was carefully chosen to reflect the people’s desire for progress, peace, and tangible breakthroughs.
He commended the Ovie (monarch) of Ughelli Kingdom, HRM (Dr) Wilson Ojakovo Oharisi III JP+ APJ the Traditional Council, the Ughelli Descendants Union, and various church leaders for their continued collaboration in sustaining the annual programme. He also confirmed that preparations are already underway for the 16th edition scheduled for January 23, 2027.
In his remarks, the monarch, emphasized that spiritual unity remains essential for the kingdom’s development. He urged both indigenes and residents to maintain active involvement in the yearly prayer initiative, noting that its establishment was inspired by a similar model he observed in a neighboring community.
At Ekiugbo
The royal father joined other leaders in leading prayers along key and strategic streets junctures, roundabouts, and marketplaces in Ughelli town, symbolizing the kingdom’s collective appeal for divine direction in every sphere of life.
In his homily, Venerable Charles Badawusi called for deeper cooperation among Christian bodies within the kingdom, stressing that unity of purpose would strengthen efforts toward peace and prosperity. He encouraged believers to remain steadfast and hopeful, describing divine visitation as a transformative encounter capable of reshaping destinies.
Also speaking, the President-General of the kingdom, Chief Samuel Akpemegi, appealed to residents to continue supporting the monarch’s vision, describing the annual gathering as a vital platform for communal growth.
Earlier, the Izomo of Ughelli kingdom, High Chief Sunday Ogheneovo Adams JP has praised the king for the initiative adding that since the inception of the programmed has recorded a lot of achievements including the Otovwodo flyover.
Chairman of the organising committee, Venerable Isaiah Ogue acknowledged the logistical demands of coordinating such an event but expressed satisfaction with the outcome. According to him, the success recorded this year provides a strong foundation for even greater impact in future editions.
Among those who lent support to the programme was Evan. Friday Ushirhe, Chief Executive Officer of Godsown Hotel, who praised the monarch’s leadership and encouraged broader participation, noting that the prayer initiative has contributed positively to the kingdom’s stability and progress.
The celebration concluded with special thanksgiving and praise sessions as the people of Ughelli once again demonstrated their resolve to anchor the kingdom’s aspirations on faith and unity.
