Poor Performance: FORUM Initiates Move To Recall Sen. Ede Dafinone, Ask Him To Resign

By Matthias Ogbagah

UGHELLI – The Forum of Nigeria Polling Unit Chairmen Forum (NPUCF) has commenced plans to recall the member representing Delta Central Senatorial district in the red chamber, Chief Ede Dafinone, for offenses related to poor performance and lack of people-oriented bills in the national assembly.

The Forum, in its large meeting held at Ughelli, the headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, expressed dissatisfaction with the poor performance of the member representing the good people of Urhobo nation at the House of Councilors.

NPUCF demands to know what the senator has done with the Ten Billion Naira (N10B) constituency project meant for the senatorial district for the past two years in office.

While expressing their dissatisfaction, the Forum observed with dismay that Senator Ede Dafinone has not initiated any meaningful Bills and motions that would affect the people he represents positively for the past two years.

The Forum accused him of a lack of impactful representation, a lack of empowerment programs, and a perpetual absence from his constituents for the past two years of his office.

In his welcome address titled “RECALL OF SENATOR EDE DAFINONE FOR POOR PERFORMANCE, LACK OF IMPACTFUL REPRESENTATION,” the national coordinator of the Nigeria Polling Unit Chairmen Forum (NPUCF), Rt. Evang. Nicholas Evwienure JP said that the business of representing people is a serious one and requires more rigorous commitment in all ramifications, but this is lacking in the Delta Central Senatorial District.

He urged Senator Ede Dafinone to consider himself incompetent, having failed in these two years of representation, due to his inability to use his Legislative machinery to properly address the basic yearnings of the Urhobo people.

The address reads in part, “Senator Ede Dafinone, the incumbent Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial district, is barely two years into this 10th National Assembly.

We, the eligible, registered Voters across the party lines of the Delta Central Senatorial district, are appealing to Senator Olorogun Ede Dafinone, representing the Delta Central Senatorial district, to resign Honourably or face recall.

“Our position is anchored on the numerous offences stated below.
Where is the Money (N10 billion) for the two-year Constituency project?, Where are the Bills and motions initiated and sponsored by our distinguished Senator for the past two years, no performance; lack of impactful representation, failed to initiate empowerment programmes for his constituents for the past two years?”

Other offenses are: lack of people-oriented bills, absconding, and detachment from the grassroots people, gross underrepresentation by the senator, among others, as key reasons for the Clarion call. The address stated.

Though the Urhobo nation is the fifth largest ethnic nationality in Nigeria, it has only one member in the apex chamber of the National Assembly.

“While this is enough slight, how can we go further to have a representative whose voice is not heard in the red chamber?

“We have had in the past Senators the likes of late Sen.Fred Brume, who pioneered FUPRE, Late Chief Sen.Pius Ehwerido, and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege DSP that brought Federal Polytechnic and Federal University of Medical Science, Kwale, and numerous other projects, for which the incumbent senator succeeded.

“The business of representing people is a serious one and requires more rigorous commitment in all ramifications, but this is lacking here.

We are pleading with him to consider himself incompetent, having failed in these two years of representation by his inability to use his Legislative machinery to properly address the basic yearnings of the Urhobo people.

We are mandating our members to collect and compile eligible Voters’ signatures across the Delta Central Senatorial district for the recall of Senator Olorogun Ede Dafinone from the National Assembly.

“Our modus operandi is people-oriented, and this we saved as a precedent and deterrent to other poorly performing elected legislative members and executive Positions in Delta State and Nigeria in general”.
