Political Coalition: Former Delta LGA Chairman, Uto, Defects To ADC, Eyes Party State Chairman

By Matthias Ogbagah

UGHELLI – As the waves of political coalition blow across the Delta State political landscape, a chieftain of the default People Democratic Party (PDP) and one-time chairman of Ughelli South local government area, Chief Ovis Uto, has left his new political party, APC, to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

It would be recalled that Chief Oviri Uto was an Executive Assistant to the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Sen. (Dr). Ifeanyi Okowa.

The Rainbow Newspaper reliably gathered that the Ughelli South local government area chairman is currently eyeing the Delta State chairmanship position of the party.

When contacted, Chief Uto expressed dissatisfaction with the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori’s nepotistic approach to appointing people into his government.

According to him, the governor is selective in appointing people into his cabinet, those who supported him and the party in the 2023 elections he did not consider for his government.

“I am aggrieved, I put all I have and my time into the party to ensure the party (PDP) wins in the 20223 general elections.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori only considered his cronies in his government and abandoned those who fought for the party before he defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC)”.

The defection of the former PDP chieftain is coming barely three days after a political coalition meeting in Abuja, where prominent political figures gathered to discuss opposition unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Rainbow Newspaper authoritatively gathered that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has embarked on aggressive nationwide consultations aimed at strengthening its grassroots support and enhancing coalition unity in preparation for the upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, the ruling party in Delta State, APC, has been allegedly accused of bribing the aggrieved party members to remain in the party as the party is closing ranks with all aggrieved members ahead of the party congress.
