UGHELLI – The Branch ‘A’ chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Ughelli North, Comrade Felix Olokpa has debunked in its entirety the Sahara Reporter publication, which described it as a cheap blackmail targeted to damage the hard-earned reputation of Hon. Jaro Egbo.

Speaking to The Rainbow Newspaper, Olokpa condemned the publication, describing it as malicious and defamatory in nature, orchestrated to malign the person of the Ughelli North council boss, Hon. Jaro Egbo, before the right-thinking membership of society.

According to him, the issues between the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Union of Tippers and Quarry Employers of Nigeria (UTQUEN) have been put to rest by Hon. Jaro Egbo, adding that the disbandment of UTQUEN in Ughelli North and Delta State at large stands effective.

While condemning the publication, he noted that the council boss has never at any time demanded anything from any member of NURTW, nor UTQUEN, as alleged in Sahara Reporter.

” The crisis engulfing the two union bodies began some years back. Hon. Jaro Egbo, in January this year, brought the matter to attention, appealing to both parties to maintain the status quo pending his findings from the state government.

“The Ughelli North council boss invited us to his office on Thursday, October 2, 2025, and informed us that his findings from the state government indicated that there is no place of UTQUEN in the Delta State Ministry of Transport, and he was subsequently advised to disband the activities of UTQUEN in the council area immediately.

It would be recalled that on Monday, October 6, 2025, Sahara Reporter reported that the Delta Council of Tippers’ Union accuses Ughelli North Council Chairman, Hon. Jaro Egbo, of corruption, extortion, and forceful collection of N300,000.00 from the union every month.

While calling on the general public to disregard the publication, he said, the publication lacks an iota of truth and falls short of the standard of ethical journalism.
