DTHA 2027: APC Will Prioritise Internal Democracy In Its Primaries Says Egbo, Odokuma

UGHELLI – The political landscape of Ughelli North local government area of Delta State on Sunday ignited with palpable tensions as the council chairman, Hon. Jaro Egbo, and APC Ughelli ward 1/5 chairman, Pastor Peter Odokuma announced plans for internal party primaries, opting for consensus candidates in its primaries.
The duo of Olorogun Jaro Egbo and Pastor Peter Odokuma on Sunday March 22, 2026, during the Ward’s meeting cum the maiden meeting of the newly inaugurated executive members of APC Ughelli Ward 1/5 held at Chief Fred Majemite’s Ughelli residence.
While harping on consensus candidates, the duo of Egbo and Odokuma said APC Will prioritize internal democracy in its primaries urged party faithful to remain obedient to leadership and committed to internal processes that will produce credible candidates capable of effective representation, particularly in the forthcoming House of Representatives elections.
According to him, the party has made a comprehensive list of youth and women for empowerment programmes that would be rolled out in July this year.
Egbo, noted that the APC’s commitment to grassroots development and inclusive governance underscores its readiness to foster unity while ensuring that the best candidates will emerge by consensus where necessary.
“We must remain united and focused. Togetherness we will move this party forward and achieve our goals, where necessary, we will harmonise and adopt consensus to strengthen the party,” he stated.
Earlier, Egbo reiterated the call for mass voter registration, noting that the process now requires a valid National Identification Number (NIN) saying two functional NIN registration machines have been deployed within the area to ease access for residents.
On his part, the ward chairman, Actor Peter Odokuma expressed optimism about the party’s prospects, stating that APC in Ughelli North is experiencing unprecedented unity and growth.
“We are coming at a time when the party is stronger than ever. What we are witnessing now is total harmonisation.
This unity will translate into victory in the coming elections,” he said.
He assured that the party would prioritise internal democracy in its primaries while promoting consensus among aspirants to avoid conflict and ensure a united front.
“Our focus is to produce candidates that truly represent the interests of the people. Where necessary, we will harmonise and adopt consensus to strengthen the party,” he stated.
Meanwhile, political analysts said the recent developments at the state APC where the former PDP officials take all the elective positions of the party, the hope of the members representing Ughelli North constituency 1 & II, Hon. Mathew Omonade, and Hon. Barr. Spencer Ohwofasa’s return to the government house come 2027 hangs in the balance.
