ASABA – The Delta State Command has recorded another breakthrough in its fight against crime, rescued a kidnapped woman and arrested a drug baron, and recovered a large quantity of illicit drugs at different coordinated spots in the state.

According to the press release on Sunday October 12, 2025, at about 1400 hrs, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Ovwian Aladja Police station, CSP Friday Ekundayo received a distress call from a man (name withheld ) that at about 0200hrs, while they were sleeping, armed men broke into his apartment, attacked, robbed, and kidnapped his wife.
The DPO, CSP Friday Ekundayo, in a swift response, mobilised and led operatives of the division and went after the kidnappers with a view to ensuring that the woman is rescued unhurt and the suspects arrested. They trailed the kidnappers to a forest along the Iyara community.
The police operatives trailed the suspects to a forest near the Iyara community. After intense pressure from the police, the kidnappers abandoned the victim and fled. The woman was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with her family, while the manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.
CP Abaniwonda reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents, noting that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and dismantle all criminal networks operating within the state.
He also cautioned young people to stay away from hard drugs and criminal activities, stressing that the Command remains determined to sustain its campaign against drug abuse and related crimes across Delta State.
In another development, the operatives of Crack Squad Delta State Command, while acting on credible intelligence on a suspected drug peddler, stormed a hideout at Effurun, GRA, and arrested one Mr. Igwe Samson, 33 years old, and Mr. Abalum Sunday, 39 years old.
Press release disclosed further that upon search upon search of their Sienna vehicle, four hundred and fifty (450) bottles of CSP Codeine, one hundred and eighty-eight (188) bottles of Bargadine, two hundred and eight (208) sachets of Tramadol 100mg, three hundred (300) sachets of Swinol, one hundred (100) sachets of Tramadol 500mg, fifty (50) sachets of Rophynol, a big bag of weed suspected to be cannabis were recovered.
The suspects were arrested and taken into custody. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect has been in the business for about two years, and usually buys the drug at Onitsha, and prefers to travel at night so that he will not be caught easily. Efforts to arrest his suppliers and receivers are ongoing.
While commending the gallantry of the DPO of Ovwia Aladja, CSP Friday Ekundayo and his men, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda advised youths to desist from crime and drug abuse, noting that it is one of the main drivers of crime.
The CP cautioned that drug abuse is detrimental to the health and well-being of abusers hence should be avoided.
