UGHELLI – The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ughelli North chapter in Delta State is currently in political turmoil as the APC Ogor ward Ughelli North local government area raised a serious alarm on what they described as political intimidation by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s appointee, Mr. Kelly Oghenekevwe.
Rainbow Newspaper reliably gathered that Mr. Kelly Oghenekevwe, a Governor’s appointee to the board of Internal Revenue, was accused of sabotaging the efforts of the party leadership at Ogor ward.
Speaking to Rainbow Newspaper correspondent, a chieftain of APC in Ogor Ward, Chief John Oruma berated Mr. Kelly Oghenekevwe for thwarting the efforts of the leadership of APC in Ogor ward calling on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to act fast to call him (Mr. Kelly Oghenekevwe) to order to avert the repeat of the past political catastrophe in the council area.
According to Oruma, there was a meeting of APC stakeholders held on Sunday February 8, 2026, at the Ughelli North council secretariat at the instance of the LGA vice chairman, Chief (Barr) Fred Majemite to ratify all the lists from each of the eleven (11) wards of Ughelli North but unfortunately, Ogor Ward had an issue with its list.
Disclosing further, he said, a subcommittee was immediately set up, made up of Prof. S.W. Ibodje, Prof. Paatrick Muoboghare, and Chief Mrs. Meg Atano, with a view to unraveling the issues that bedevil the ward’s list.
Chief Oruma clarified further that the 3-man committee led by Prof. S.W.E Ibodje came out with their findings and gave a nod to ratify the list presented by Chief Raphael Emecho on behalf of APC Ogor ward, and it was generally accepted with a unanimous yes vote by all that was present.
According to him, while the elders and leaders of APC in Ogor ward were working hard to zone the positions /offices to deliver Governor Sheriff Oborevwori come 2027 general elections, they woke up with a surprising lackadaisical calls from left, right, and center suggesting Governor Oborevwori has directives that the Ogor list should be reviewed again.
“For clarity, when Chief Emecho presented its list, as a leader of APC Ogor ward, Kelly raised a deceitive voice and he was asked to present his list but he said his list is not ready that made the the entirety of the local government to say no you can not come for a meeting like this you are not ready with your list, you cannot build something on top of nothing so it was a unanimous vote that the list presented by chief Emecho be accepted.
“The leader of APC Ogor ward, Chief Raphael Emecho went back home and convened the meeting of the ward and he (Kelly)was invited but he refused to honour the invitation, saying he is the highest political office holder in Ogor kingdom therefore he can not attend the meeting convened by the ward leader, Chief Emecho.
“Being a governor appointee does it make one a leader over everybody? He queried. There is a man in Ogor now saying that, because he’s been appointed for the past seven years has made him the leader of Ogor ward, Chief Asore has been a leader, Chief Oduma has been a leader, as today Chief Raphael Emecho is the leader of the ward, yet he is saying his list conchorted list must fly when the 55 stakeholders have affirmed Chief Emecho’s list.
“The meeting proceeded with the already laid down political tradition of Ogor Ward, the offices and positions were swapped, those in DSIEC ward 1 were swapped to ward 2, and those in ward 2 were swapped to ward 1, and everybody fell back to his or her own ward with the position shared.
“Specifically it is worthy of note that the chairman of has been has in Edjekota Ogor for the past eight (8) years, in the wisdom of the elders and leadership party during the meeting said for purpose of inclusiveness the chairmanship position should go to ward 1 which comprise of Otor-Ogor, Ovwodokpokpor and Ighwreovie-Ogor, those people pulled out and selected a leader who will come up as a ward chairman and his name was presented to ward two and ward 2 also accepted him.
“Chief Emecho is from Edjekota-Ogor and the man Kelly is projecting to become the ward chairman is also from Edjekota-Ogor, we don’t do things like that, Ogor has a rotational peaceful arrangement that’s why they went back and shared and swapped the positions the ones in ward 1 went to ward 2 the ones in ward 2 went to ward 1. We are fighting the same goal, we need the governor’s ear over this matter, as people are using his name, we want to remind him that the governor has stated that everybody should maintain
their ward.
“Ogor APC are firm on their stand since the entire Ughelli North local government ratified Emecho’s list in the presence of all that were present on that Sunday stakeholder meeting, we are not going back”, they vowed.
The premise of our selection was for inclusiveness, all party members, irrespective of old and new members.
We are calling on both the party chairman and the governor to discourage the issue of flaunting money to buy a list.
We stand by the decision of the entire APC Ughelli North stakeholders’ and leaders’ meeting.
There are a lot of insinuations, especially by the chief contender, Oghenekevwe Kelly, who allegedly boasts that he is going to use money to buy anything he wants to buy and get away with it.
If cries and yearns are not given the desired attentions we will take a step forward or consider option B.
