UGHELLI – The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the executive governor of Delta State, Sir Chief Festus Ahon, said two years of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in office surpassed eight years of other governors in the state and other state governors.

Ahon disclosed this on Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25, 2025, when the Exco of the Delta State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) paid him a courtesy visit at his Ughelli country home, the administrative headquarters of the Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the government of Delta State, under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, sees the welfare and well-being of the people of the state as a priority.

He explained that the capital projects and other welfare packages being embarked upon by the state government are testaments to the fact that the governor means well for the state.

His words: “The governor has done more in two years than what other governors have done in eight years even in other states.
“The projects we are doing are projects that will stand the test of time; projects that will outlive our generation. We must give Deltans value. The governor will not compromise the welfare of Deltans and in all the projects he is doing, there is no borrowing,” he stated.
While soliciting the cooperation and support of the NUJ members for the promotion of peace and smooth governance in the state, even as he gave assurance of continued support for journalists in the state, he noted that it is in the atmosphere of peace and harmony that more progress can be made.
“We will continue to make efforts to improve the number of journalists in the state. My Principal, the governor, is a somebody who is media-friendly. We need your continued support for the government. When there is peace, more progress can be made.”
Responding, the chairman of the NUJ Delta State council, Comrd Churchill Oyowe, who led the team of Exco said that they came on behalf of the NUJ in the state to express the Union’s appreciation to the CPS for the great improvement in his support for journalists in the state, adding that magnanimity of the CPS in the recent Christmas gifts touched all the NUJ chapels in the state unlike previous years.
Oyowe, however, asked for the sustenance of the CPS’s goodwill towards the Union and then reminded him (Ahon) of the Union’sprevious requests for a bus and generator for the state council secretariat.

“Today, we are celebrating. All chapels in the state have been touched by your magnanimity … The food of God is thanksgiving, and we are like God. That is why we said we should not delay. We said we should come and tell you “thank you” for all that you have been doing. May the God we all serve bless you.”
In his response, thanked the NUJ state Exco for the visit, promised to follow up on the requests, assuring that his door is ever open to the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
