ASABA – Delta State government has approved the suspension and relief of five primary school heads found guilty of collecting unapproved levies from candidates for the 2025 cognitive and placement examination.

The suspension and relief of duties of the erred school heads was made known in a statement by the Director of Public Communication/functioning Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Information, Theresa Adiabua-Oliko.

According to the statement, “Sequel to the investigation and the on-the-spot visit carried out recently by the Hon. Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu to schools in the State, a request was made to the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for the suspension of some schools found guilty of collecting unapproved levies from candidates for the 2025 cognitive and placement examination”.

The affected school heads who were relieved of their duties are: Mrs Ajeh B. O of Asamata Primary School, Ugiliamai (Ndokwa); Mr. Uboh I. Joseph of Morka Primary School, Obiaruku (Ukwani LGA), Mrs. Okpakogborho Grace of Abraka Model Primary School, Abraka (Ethiope East).

Others are; Mrs. David Uzeze of Ekrejeta Primary School, Abraka (Ethiope East) and Mrs. Otuedor Lydia of Orogun Primary School, Orogun (Ughelli North).

“The decision is in line with the zero tolerance posture of the Delta State Government for corruption, extortion from parents and guardians and it is meant to serve as a deterrent to others.

“Deltans and the public are hereby enjoined to report every form of illegal collection of school fees via call or text to 08057540330,” adds the statement.

Meanwhile, some concerned parents in state called on the state governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori to beam his search light on the secondary school heads in the state alleging that extortion is the order of the day in most of the state own secondary schools.

The Rainbow Newspaper finding indicate that four of the five erred primary school heads are women. “Everyday is for the thief, one day is for the owner”.
